Thomas is riding his ARTEMIS sailing canoe Pippilotta through the short, steep chop of the Greifswald Bodden. The boat is fully loaded for a five-day trip. Conditions are easing, but waves still require vigilance. For me, coastal canoe sailing is a balance between safety and daily distance. Go far, stay safe!

Sleeping in a sailing canoe is like sleeping in a cradle. This moskito- and rainproof solution was stipulated by Jan Himp in Bremen. A Wechsel Pathfinder tent is mounted on the cockpit rim. Total weight is 2'300 g - easy and inventive! Here is a video about this assembly.

Artemis with lugsail. This one was made from a kit for CHF 320.- with a household sewing machine with zigzag stitch in about two afternoons. The spars were made from two laminated roof battens each. It can't be simpler...

The cruising speed is about 6 - 7 km/h with the double paddle. Without sheer strake and fittings, it is easy to follow the lines of the boat.
